Supermarket Bouquet

supermarket bouquet

When the months get colder and the snow has covered summer’s garden, I shop for inspiration.

Inexpensive supermarket flowers make for many photos.  I could not stop taking pictures of this pretty bouquet that I picked up the other day.

They didn’t look like much, stuck in a vase.  Some of the petals were curled and withered from the plastic wrap, and a few leaves torn.  They weren’t perfect, but when I rearranged them in the bright afternoon sunlight, they made for some beautiful compositions.

Here are a few of my favourites:

These are all available in my Etsy shop as digital dowloads:

Flowers on the Table

Same flowers, different spot.

These are the flowers I bought at the beginning of the summer.  They had been sitting in a pot on the floor of my front porch until I brought this antique table outside.  Walking by with my camera, I noticed the colour of the table complemented the flowers, and I imagined that a shallow depth of field with give an interesting result.

I was right.

I love the softness of the table’s edge in the foreground, with the flowers spilling out over it.  Just enough detail to show its age, but blurred so that it blends with the greens of the leaves.

I have photographed these flowers before, but this has to be my favourite shot.

Flowers for Dancing

My daughter dances.

On the weekend, she had a recital that went beautifully. Sparkly green and purple dancers in a birthday party choreography, complete with party hats and wrapped gifts.

Now, we have flowers around the house that were given to her after the show.

They are her flowers, but my camera and I have been enjoying them as well.
